Qualification -
Unit of Competency MEM08008 - Operate and control surface finishing waste treatment process
Description
Employability Skills
Learning Outcomes and Application This unit of competency defines the skills and knowledge required to treat and purify metal finishing effluent waters which typically contain cyanides, hexavalent chromium, heavy metal cations, certain anions and greases using appropriate pre-determined waste treatment processes. Where the interpretation of technical drawings is required unit MEM09002 Interpret technical drawing should also be selected.Where the selection and use of engineering measurement is required unit MEM12023 Perform engineering measurements should also be selected.Where the selection and use of tools is required unit MEM18001 Use hand tools and unit MEM18002 Use power tools/hand held operations, should also be selected as appropriate. No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.Band: AUnit Weight: 3

Submission Requirements

List each assessment task's title, type (eg project, observation/demonstration, essay, assignment, checklist) and due date here

Assessment task 1: [title]      Due date:

(add new lines for each of the assessment tasks)

Assessment Tasks

Copy and paste from the following data to produce each assessment task. Write these in plain English and spell out how, when and where the task is to be carried out, under what conditions, and what resources are needed. Include guidelines about how well the candidate has to perform a task for it to be judged satisfactory.

This field allows for different work environments and conditions that may affect performance. Essential operating conditions that may be present (depending on the work situation, accessibility of the item, and local industry and regional contexts) are included.

Waste/effluent includes one (1) or more of the following:

rinse waters

spent solutions

spills

leaks

Recording devices include one (1) or more of the following:

pH meter

oxidising/reduction/potential probes (redox)

flow rate

Waste treatment processes include one (1) or more of the following:

chemical treatments

neutralisation

metal precipitation

solid separation (gravity, centrifuging)

oxidation

reduction

grease entrapment

ion exchange

reverse osmosis

gas scrubbing

Process parameters include one (1) or more of the following:

solution flow

pH

redox (oxidising /reduction/potential) which typically contain cyanides, hexavalent chromium, heavy metal cations, certain anions and greases

Copy and paste from the following performance criteria to create an observation checklist for each task. When you have finished writing your assessment tool every one of these must have been addressed, preferably several times in a variety of contexts. To ensure this occurs download the assessment matrix for the unit; enter each assessment task as a column header and place check marks against each performance criteria that task addresses.
